The purpose of Antiochian Women is to develop among women throughout the Antiochian Archdiocese a spirit of Christian leadership, awareness and commitment as taught in the Holy Orthodox Church; to foster a genuine expression of love and service through works of charity; and to instill a sense of fellowship and a deeper understanding of the heritage and traditions of the Orthodox Church.
The Antiochian Orthodox Christian Women of North America was founded in 1973 through the vision of His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP (Saliba) as an organization of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America.
The Ladies Altar Society of Allentown, PA was reorganized under Fr. Anthony’s blessings in December 2001. Currently, the Ladies Altar Society of Allentown, PA is sponsoring four children from Syria. The Ladies Altar Society has also raised money for an orphanage in Syria, as well as for AOWNA’s (Antiochian Orthodox Women’s National Organization) special projects. Another humanitarian project that truly touched our hearts was saving a young teenagers life. The Ladies Altar Society of Allentown knew of a teenager in Syria who was in need of surgery due to head trauma sustained in a motorcycle accident. Through many generous donations of parishioners, the ladies raised enough money so that the teenager was able to have his surgery. The young man’s father sent a letter of appreciation saying that the surgery saved his son’s life.
All the ladies of St. George are invited to become members of this organization. “With God, all things are possible.”
